An interesting take, which could apply in its essentials to anywhere on Earth. Why remember only individuals from our own nation who have died? Wht not remember humans all over the planet who have given their lives, who have, as you put it, "died untimely"? Here in the UK, we are in the middle of Remembrance, with Remembrance Day itself being the 11th of November. Many millions of us are wearing poppies as a sign that we are remembering. I used to have difficulty with that, but then realised it was no one else's decision WHOM I remembered in my own head. So I wear a poppy, but I remember not only British troops who have died, but civilians and troops of any and all nations, of all human beings who have died in the name of War. And of course you're right, Jessie: on that basis ALL flags should be permanently at half mast, or none.
